If you join as an affiliate of theirs, then you get a commission of every sale that comes through you.
You do that by promoting the product for them, generally through your own websites, blogs, and writing articles for online directories and article websites. You'll get an affiliate link, so that when people who surf your site or article click on it to purchase the product, the company realizes that the sale came from you, and you get the commission. It's a win win situation. The companies get a wider market for their items and advertising they only have to pay for when it makes a sale, and you get to make money without needing to have a product or service of your own to offer. And there's no initial investment needed on your part, other than maybe getting a few domain names.
Now like any legitimate business opportunity, affiliate marketing is not for those who are hoping to get rich overnight. In fact, there is no legitimate way to get rich overnight!
